Never, Never Quit. - Tatum

My name is Tatum Buffington. I am an accomplished, competitive tennis player with solid academics and graduate in June 2023. My goal is to be a professional tennis player and play on your team. I want to improve my game and take tennis as far as I can.

I played number one varsity singles tennis at La Jolla High School during my freshman, sophomore, and junior years. I love being part of a team, being close with my teammates, and cheering for each other. In addition, I am a well-rounded player who enjoys playing singles, doubles, and mixed doubles. Some of my recent accomplishments are listed below. 

• 2022 Player of The Year, San Diego Unified School District Western League 

• 2022 Singles Champion, San Diego Unified School District Western League 

• 2022 Yonex Cup Sportsmanship Award

This semester, I moved to online studies at Laurel Springs School to allow more time and flexibility to focus on my tennis game. Andre Agassi is coaching me. He says I am highly coachable, process and apply information quickly, and have unlimited room to grow. 

The dedication is paying off. My game is improving, and I am getting in great shape by playing countless practice matches and working out every day. In addition, I play tournaments almost every weekend. As a result, my UTR has increased by 1 point in only four months. My current UTR is 7.98. 

I push myself academically, too, taking rigorous classes including AP Biology, AP Calculus, AP Environmental Science, AP US History, AP Language and Composition, and AP European History. Freshman year, my weighted GPA was 4.1; my sophomore year was 4.6, and my first semester weighted GPA for my junior year was 4.42. I am interested in the medical and biology fields from taking honors biomedical classes. In addition, I am interested in studying business and economics. When I am not playing tennis or studying, I enjoy the beach, volunteering with the National Charity League, coaching kids tennis, and playing with my dogs.
